Whether you are passionate about beading, felting, making jewellery, knitting, woodwork or any other craft, you can find a whole new world of sales opportunities for your beautiful products online. Here are five tips to help you sell your works of art online.

1. Join an Online Craft Marketplace

Etsy is just one of the many online marketplaces where you can sell your crafts. Sign up for these marketplaces, create a profile and a shop and start offering your one of a kind goods. You can also take a look around at the crafts that everyone else is selling so that you can get an idea of what your competition looks like.

2. Post High Quality Photos

Your piece of artwork or handmade craft could be really beautiful, but if all you have to post online is a poor quality, blurry and low resolution photo it will not look good to customers. Taking good photos of your crafts is essential for showing off their full beauty online. Make sure that when you snap the photo the object is well lit and you are using a decent quality camera. If you sell small items such as jewellery you might want to consider getting it professionally photographed – you will need the right lens and a photography light box to capture the details.

3. Network on Social Media

Create social media profiles for your crafting business and actively use them. Try to connect with potential customers as well as other crafters and artists in order to build an online network. Don’t just use your Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts to broadcast your promotional materials – also use them to connect with others, share your personality and get into an interesting discussion.

4. Write Excellent Product Descriptions

Every product you sell should have a well written description to go with it, describing what it is, what it’s features are, the meaning behind it, the materials you used and what makes it special. This informs your customers and also helps your Google ranking.

People don’t buy crafts because they are practical, they buy them because they are meaningful and beautiful. Don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through into the crafts you make and the way you market them – someone might connect with it.
