Did you know that as a nation we scroll our way to the moon over 546 times in a year?

That’s a lot of thumb miles!

It is reported that the average British person will happily scroll their way through 22.7 meters a day, which as a nation totals 210 million miles.

When it comes to social media it is expected that we scroll through heaps of content with a view that we will find something engaging, whether that’s finding out what’s going on with Kim Jong Un or who embarrassed themselves at the last work night out. However, when it comes to mobile shopping the experience should be entirely different.

Exploring your website

Your website should be easy to explore, allowing your customers to find what they need and quickly proceed to checkout to complete their purchase. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find a product or service that you know is available but completely hidden. For example, recently I needed to order a load of food from a local Indian restaurant. I opted to use a well known delivery service website on my phone due to the order being large and me not wanting to phone up the restaurant and have a long drawn out awkward conversation. However, the delivery website had changed the menu layout, the food had been categorised and I couldn’t find half the dishes I wanted to order. After about 10 minutes of hunting for chicken tikka masala (not my choice!) I gave up and called the restaurant direct. The delivery service lost out on their cut and I probably won’t use them again, at least until they have a redesign! My point here is that if a customer can’t find what they want they will go elsewhere, this is why having an optimised responsive website is so important.

Already have a responsive website? Then there are some simple changes that can be made to optimise mobile experience. Help is at hand

If you don’t have a responsive website you should seriously consider taking the plunge and investing in one. Not only are they great for user experience (and converting enquiries/sales) they will also help with your SEO as Google takes mobile-friendliness as a ranking factor in their algorithms, therefore making your company easier to find.
